Why this Blog?

A place where I can lament the changing times; for eccentric comments on current affairs and for unfashionable views, expressed I hope, in cogent style; also occasional cris de coeur largely concerned, I regret to say, with myself.

Disingenuous Twerp

Today's headline could refer to a great many politicians - though not the egregious Trump; nothing disingenuous about that bastard.

No, today I am talking about that well-known wimpy weather-vane. Nick Clegg, erstwhile leader of the sinking Liberal Democratic Party here in England.

During Prime Minister's Questions today in the House of Commons, Clegg's performance was reported by the BBC as follows:

He [Clegg] accused Theresa May, "prime minister of our country, with no mandate of her own", of having the gall to tell her Conservative Party conference that if "you believe we have a natural affinity with other countries", British internationalism, "you are a citizen of nowhere".

Typical bloody leftie tripe.  The socialists often like to try this one on as well.  What does this ineffectual buffoon mean by "mandate?"

Mr Clegg: (time you studied British Constitution isn't it?) here in Great Britain, we elect PARTIES not "presidents".  We have an excellent Head of State in the person of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Try to keep up.

Until the next time

636: Political Stuff

The other day, I posted here about the rather pathetic Nick Clegg, with his rejection of the proposed ban of the brutal slaughter practices of the religious extremists with which this country is rapidly becoming over-run.

I read, I think yesterday, about the results of a poll carried out concerning the "public's" opinion of the leaders of the principal political parties.

I'm not at all interested in what they thought about the ludicrous Millipede, Weather-vane Clegg, or even UKIP's Nigel Farage, the latter apparently doing quite well. As my regular readers will know, I am no enthusiast for democracy, since there are too many oiks, chavs and thickos allowed to vote in our system, the inept system of universal suffrage as it is called.

My opinion is confirmed (at least in my view) by the fact that a criticism that was voiced in the poll was that Mr David Cameron was "too posh."

I take it from this unpleasant outcome, that it would be perfectly acceptable according to the aforementioned oiks, chavs and thickos, were Cameron to speak with the repellent "Estuary" accent currently so fashionable at the BBC.

After all, if the findings had revealed that a political leader attracted opprobrium by virtue of the fact that he was too common, then I'd bet a pound to a penny that we would never be told...

And since Mr Cameron does not (to me at least) sound at all "posh" I can only shudder in imagining how the respondents in the poll speak.

Vote for Nancy Mitford I say, or even better, George Sanders.

Gawd 'elp us, gorblimey guv, a merry Christmas on yer, strike a light, lumme, don't dis us, innit...

634: Nick Clegg - What an Artist!

A ban has been proposed on the unpleasant practices used by certain religious groups in regard to the slaughter of their meat animals.  Orthodox Jews and Moslems insist that the animals should have their throats cut whilst they are conscious and thus bled to death.

It has been proposed that the animals should first be stunned.
This has caused outrage amongst those who wear the funny clothes; "It's reely offensive" said some silly bitch in a headscarf on the TV news this evening.

Defenders of these outdated and barbaric practices have suggested that the stunning process can go wrong and thus cause "more suffering."  Pathetic, truly pathetic and of course, profoundly unconvincing.

Nick Clegg that weather-vane incarnate has decided that there should not be a ban.

Where that will leave him with the anti-hunting, tree-hugging, little-furry-animal lovers in his party, one simply cannot imagine.  Perhaps he imagines that his dying party will be embraced by religious fanatics?  Who can tell how his mind works?

Until the next time.

I'll Bet You Weren't Expecting This

What? You ask.

The answer is a bouquet for Nick Clegg MP.  I am no supporter of the Ludicrous Democrats, or even democracy itself; I believe in minimum government - the less the better, hence my dislike/distrust of the super-layer at Brussels.

I have posted numerous times here about the government's plans to snoop on electronic communications; here's an example; search under "Big Brother" or "surveillance" for more.

However it seems that Clegg has put a spoke in the government's wheel on this business, so at least we are spared this awful business for a while.  I suppose if the socialists get in in 2015 we'll have it all again; socialists (actually like the Lib Dems) love ordering us about and interfering in our lives; telling us ridiculous lies about "global warming" "wind farms" and "passive smoking"; trying to make us eat disgusting vegetables and ride bloody bicycles etc.

I was born far too late.

Until the next time.

Big Brother Lives - More Internet Stuff

BBC News today carries the story that the Big Brother bill is still alive although it is to be re-drafted.

A simple search on this blog using the words "Big Brother" will reveal that I am distinctly disapproving of this project, which has been under consideration for some time.  Indeed as I have remarked before, I consider that there is already more than enough government.  Also, this will be an expensive project - doubly so since the British government has a long history of very expensive failures in connexion with Information Technology, usually reported at length by Private Eye.  Recent examples include the splendid telephones cock-up at the BBC and Fujitsu's farcical performance at the NHS.

And we are supposed to be able to trust these people with our data? There have been too many cases of government officials leaving laptops in cars or even simply losing them.

Terrifying I think, although as with almost everything, there is a small silver lining: apparently Liberal Democratic leader Nick Clegg is opposed to the scheme; finally something on which he and I can agree - and something which will serve to justify his existence.
