The recently imposed "blanket" smoking bans in England and Wales and in France have, despite the largely pro-ban reports in the media, caused a considerable amount of bad feeling: in France it is said that bar owners, many of them at least, are in despair - with turnover down between 20 and 30% since the the ban was imposed. Social life in many villages has been severely affected, since this inevitably revolves around the local bar.
I hesitate to use the appropriate language to describe my personal feelings here...
Perhaps sensible Germany can show the rest of Europe the way? Report here
Until the next time.
Why this Blog?
A place where I can lament the changing times; for eccentric comments on current affairs and for unfashionable views, expressed I hope, in cogent style; also occasional cris de coeur largely concerned, I regret to say, with myself.
