Why this Blog?

A place where I can lament the changing times; for eccentric comments on current affairs and for unfashionable views, expressed I hope, in cogent style; also occasional cris de coeur largely concerned, I regret to say, with myself.

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown

In this post that I submitted the other day, I referred to transportation to the South Sandwich Islands as a suitable method of dealing with Islamist (or in fact any) religious extremists, terrorists etc.

On Monday this week, owing to the fact that the only newspaper left at the newsagent was The Independent, I came across an article by Miss Alibhai-Brown.  She wrote:

"And at moments of high tension, the most liberal and democratic of us fantasise about transporting them all [Islamist fanatics] to a remote cold island, their own dismal caliphate where they could preach to each other and die."

Could it be possible that Miss Alibhai-Brown had seen my article?  Otherwise it came as quite a shock that she might have something in common with this writer, but as is well known, life is "full of surprises" usually in my experience, unpleasant ones.  I must say that "dismal caliphate" is a well-turned phrase, but implying (at least, I draw the inference) that there might be something undemocratic about transporting these ordures is surely erroneous.  How many of Miss Alibhai-Brown's fellow Britons would be likely to support such a scheme?

Quite a few I should say.

Until the next time.

More on Saudi-Arabia

I recently mentioned this state in my first article about nations making themselves laughing-stocks as a result of bizarre ideologies.

In that article, I drew attention to the appalling sentence of whipping handed down to a 75-year-old widow for "mingling with men to whom she was not related."

Today I read in this IHT article that the Saudis consider themselves victims of terror carried out by Islamic extremists. In fact as the article explains, commendably the Saudis are training hard in order to defeat the jihadists.

As Private Eye might remark: "shome mishtake shurely?" It is hard to believe that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia needs my little blog to draw attention to the fact that the absurd Wahabi theocracy that prevails in the Kingdom can only serve to encourage those fanatical crackpots who wish to turn the world back to the fifteenth century with the aid of beards, burkhas, AK-47s and shaped charges?

Ironically the fanatics say they wish to destroy the Kingdom; whatever could they think up to replace it? The Taliban I suppose!

In Case You Didn't Know...

Sorry everybody, but Sunday has turned out for me to be a bit of a blood-boiling day.  Perhaps I should stop reading the news?

Anyway, it seems that it's official: some creep (the son of what is, I hope, the late Osama Bin Laden) has written to the government of Iran, thanking it for its help in setting up terrorist cells in Yemen (another bordel) and for its assistance in the suicide bombing of the American Embassy there.

Unfortunately for the "towels" the communication has been intercepted by Western Intelligence.

Whoops.

I suppose that "Dinner-Jacket" will be obliged by his bearded masters, the Ayatollahs, to deny everything and continue with his atomic bomb.  Perhaps they can hire "Mr Whippy" who by now, probably considers himself a master of public relations!

God!  How they piss me off!

The Great Satan

Is how the USA is viewed in many parts of the world.  Now that the USA has decided to take direct action to control the terrorists that are operating from Pakistan with impunity and, it is alleged, the covert co-operation of the Pakistani intelligence services, Pakistanis are now describing the USA as "Terrorists."

Well here's my view: no, I do not believe that the USA has "clean hands" - there is plenty of dirt to dig - with recent revelations about secret CIA jails in Poland for example.  But I think that the US, which cannot have taken this decision lightly is, I believe entitled to do all it can to defend its soldiers who are fighting a nasty UN-sanctioned war in Afganistan.

Nevertheless I also see that US helicopters are landing aid in Haiti, following the damage caused by hurricane Ike.  Haiti is a country ruined by the rule of utter bastards (like that disgusting piece of shit "Papa Doc Duvalier" - makes me hope that there is  a hell and that he is keeping Pol Pot, Joe Stalin, Odilo Globocnik et al, company in the very hottest part). And I see that US ships are landing aid in Georgia, perhaps for political reasons, but nevertheless, aid is aid.

I do not see Russian, Chinese, Arab or Pakistani ships unloading aid, so my message to the complainers is:

SHUT THE FUCK UP.
