WOOLWICH - An Afterthought

Since it is politically impossible these days, in the West at least to execute the sort of vermin who carried out yesterday's attack, for me this begs the question about what could we actually do with these appalling people - and the perverted maniacs who "radicalise" them.

I suggest that the penalty of transportation, to British territory elsewhere be reinstated; why not?  We would not be "infringing their human rights" by deporting them to countries who have a better idea of how to deal with terrorists, and anyway, tragically many of these people actually have British passports.

I see with interest that the South Sandwich Islands, British sovereign territory in the South Atlantic, are unoccupied and have been since we kicked out the illegal Argentinian base that was installed there in 1978.

So it's very simple: gather together the murderers and thugs who pervert the name of Islam with their deranged activities, and their horrible hate-purveying ranters (e.g. Abu Qatada), give them 50 sheep and some packets of seeds and deposit them in the South Atlantic.  Problem solved - and of course this punishment will apply to any other "radicals" who try to stir up trouble.  The climate there should cool their ardour a little and there would be the added bonus of their presence being likely to dissuade the Argentinians from attempting another take-over!  Since the climate may well be a bit too tough for the sheep (though I dare say there may be some hardy breed) I suppose we might stretch a point and give them some fishing tackle!

She's Still At It

President Kirchner of Argentina has lost no time in pressing her misguided suit on the newly-elected (Argentinian) Pope.

Presiding over an economy that is not far from the knacker's yard she is desperately trying to keep the Falkland Islands in the news.   She is quoted as saying "I asked for his intervention to avoid problems that could emerge from the militarization of Great Britain in the south Atlantic," 

Well she can piss off.  The will be no problems at all if she keeps her nose out of it. The Falkland Islands are sovereign British territory which we are free to operate as we please; none of her damned business.  Of course she wants to keep the populace distracted as did her repellent predecessor Galtieri.  Tough.

The New Pope

The New Argentinian Pope has apparently made his views clear about what he calls "Las Malvinas," that is The Falkland Islands.  He has made statements regretting the loss of the lives of the Argentinian soldiers, sailors and airmen many of them conscripts, who perished during General Galtieri's misguided attempt forcibly to annex the islands to Argentina.

For a catholic, newly-elected Pope it might be a bit better if he were to apologise for Galtieri's appalling dictatorship and to the families of the "disappeared" ones - those thousands brutally executed or simply dropped from helicopters.  And also for Galtieri's cynical exploitation of the issue to distract attention at home - just as that idiot woman Kirchner is attempting at present.

Meanwhile I suggest that he keeps his Jesuitical nose firmly to the church grindstone (it is in need of urgent attention) and out of the affairs of Great Britain and the Falkland Islands.

Bullshit

She's at it again: Senora Kirchner, the increasingly desperate president of a near bankrupt Argentina, is following in the footsteps of her predecessor, General Galtieri in hoping to distract the Argentinian populace from domestic woes by making noises about the Falkland Islands, which she claims "belong to Argentina."

No they don't - in fact the islands were claimed by British Navy Captain Byron in 1765, though at the time they were a French possession, subsequently ceded to Spain but reclaimed by the British in 1833 since when the islands have been continually under British sovereign rule.

President Kirchner likes to refer to Argentinian territorial integrity, but for those who imagine that the islands are a short hop from Argentina (perhaps like the Isle of Wight apropos Britain) it's worth remembering that they are 310 miles from the Patagonian coast.  On that basis perhaps the USA will claim Cuba, which is 16 miles from Florida!

The 3000 inhabitants are resolute in their desire to remain under British protection; in fact the Argentinians rather blew it when they invaded in 1982, forcing the inhabitants to drive on the right and declaring Spanish to be the official language.  There were other heavy-handed diplomatic balls-ups at the time which served severely to piss-off the islanders.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has stated that there is to be a referendum amongst the islanders concerning sovereignty, adding that Britain will "respect and defend the results of the plebiscite."  Also the islanders' leaders cite the UN charter regarding self-determination of peoples whilst President Kirchner bangs on about "colonial rule."

The Argentinian president would be better advised to focus her energies on the looming financial crisis in her country, and also bear in mind that apparently a substantial part of the Argentinian population actually don't give a damn!
