It is most heartening to see that there has been widespread condemnation and protest in Pakistan of the appalling attack on 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai about which I ranted yesterday.
Disheartening is to read the rubbish put out by the horrible people who are behind this cowardly and shameful act. A friend sent me this link to the piece which demonstrates how terrifying the state of the world will become as these deranged religious fanatics gain ground with their stupid blasphemous, fucking jihad.
According to them, since the world is under their god, unless we grow beards/wear silly clothes (delete according to sex) and follow their religion we are all condemned to be beheaded (unless we pay it seems...).
Well, well there's progress for you.
We in the West had to confront communism in the 20th century (unless, foolishly we embraced it) or Nazism/Facism (ditto). All these movements were based on very flawed 19th-century philosophies.
Now we have to confront what is sadly a more successful movement, based on a philosophy of the 7th century and enforced at gun/bomb-point; as I wrote above, "progress." It is tragic that it has been shown that in Pakistan there have been clear cases that elements of government have been penetrated by the fanatics; I need hardly comment on Iran I suppose, from which one cannot expect much in the way of civilised behaviour as it is run by Moslem fundamentalists.
Fundamentalism in any manifestation is worrying; in Israel there are Jews who are every bit as fanatical as these horrible people. As I have written before I have never forgotten seeing a film on BBC news showing Israeli soldiers bulldozing a Palestinian orchard; for the life of me if those soldiers had been wearing the uniform of the SS - or for that matter of the NKVD - I shouldn't have been at all surprised.
Given that all of the five permanent members of the Security Council have had trouble with the fanatics - I note that both Russia and China have been more than a little vigorous in suppressing them - a naif might be forgiven for thinking that just for once they might pool resources and act in concert to try to rid the world of this dreadful cancer or at least try to get it under control.
Until the next time

Your mention of appalling Israeli behaviour brings to mind Veolia Environmental who, amongst their sins, operate an apartheid transport service in the illegal settlements.

and pussy riot appeal denied .Labour camp now for them.
human rights . Again denied by fear of the truth and irrational beliefs(a pedant might say there is an oxymoron there .)
Mr.O
Not quite so easy this one. As I wrote before, I consider that two years' imprisonment was grossly excessive. However Pussy Riot did show a great disregard for the sensibilities of those worshipping at their church.
Unlike the "fatwah" purveyors, the Russian Orthodox Church does not murder in justification of their beliefs - anyway there is the Russian State to do that particular job.
Undoubtedly the law was broken; were I the judge, I think a 100 rouble fine would have been about right.
Growing ties between church and state in Russia have been a target of criticism and protest. The Russian Patriarch, Kirill, had openly supported Putin's 2012 re-election, calling Putin a "miracle from God", who had "rectified the crooked path of history." After the cathedral performance, members of Pussy Riot said the church is a "weapon in a dirty election campaign" and called Putin "a man who is as far as can be from God's truth."
'It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. "I'm offended by that." Well, so fucking what?' —Stephen Fry
Mr.O`
Putin is quite obviously a megalomaniac and if he is offended then all I can say is that Stephen Fry (whom I don't really like tho' I admire his knowledge) is bang on on that point
